Haiti - Day 1

Rebuilding From The Rubble

Day One, June 25, 2011, Pétionville, Ouest, Haiti

Dear Friends and Family,
http://www.warnermemorial.org/uploads/plane and coast.jpghttp://www.warnermemorial.org/uploads/IMG_2660.jpgOur trip was uneventful and beautiful.  St. Joseph's is full of great people. Michael Geilenfeld, the Director, is helpful and knowledgeable about Haiti.  The boys are relaxed and involved with wood working, dishes, music, and worship.  We had a delicious dinner.  Tomorrow we start moving rocks to build a very large retaining wall.  You can see the dirt wall in the photos.

Responding to the news that the weather at home was beautiful, Deacon Doug Seeley sent the following:

Yo, William http://www.warnermemorial.org/uploads/STREET_CEMENT_TRUCK.jpg- this place is gorgeous, too, but in a different way.  St. Joseph's is extremely run by a Catholic Brother who earned his wings under Mother Teresa.  Extremely hot (and doesn't cohttp://www.warnermemorial.org/uploads/Doug-Brunell.jpgol off at night much) but apparently free of the health issues borne by mosquitoes and bad water.  Beautiful spot above Port Au Prince.  Today (Sunday, the Day of Rest) we move a sizable rock pile from one spot to another.  Feel like George Clooney in Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou?  Pix to follow.
Chow,
Deacon Doug
